Mountain biking event Tour de Tampere, organized by a local cycling club Kaupin Kanuunat, celebrates it’s 20th anniversary. That’s the reason we wanted to provide some extra challenge for those ultra-enthusiast MTB-cyclists who want to suffer a bit.

In a nutshell: Tour de Tampere (TdT) is well organized MTB event which offers you a great challenge to push the limits. There is a large variety of different groups from 5 to 8 hours of riding on great surfaces around Tampere region at your own level. There are groups not only for mountain bikers (XC- and enduro), but also for Cyclo Crossers or even Trekking bikers. Great opportunity to get a view on the nature surrounding Tampere. In years 2009-2014 there have been 200-300 participants.

If you’re not satisfied to have “only” eight hard hours of MTB (which is already quite challenging to most who already have a good MTB-experience), there is an extra challenge: TdT-Extreme, twenty hours of riding quite technical trails but also some gravel and tarmac roads. Shortly, that race (which actually isn’t a race because we won’t race against others, just against tiredness...) includes two loops. The first loop goes south from Tampere, around lake Roine when the second and bigger loop turns to north. The northest point we reach is Jämi.

Service: The extreme group is based on high self-service idea. There is one service car for some emergency cases, i.e. some member of the group is totally tired or there comes some severe technical damages. Service car enables also some water fillings in places where that’s not otherwise possible. Self-service, however, does mean that you have to carry most of your liquids, gels, bars, tools, etc. in your backbag.

Time schedule:
- Compulsory ridermeeting Friday 22.5. at 19.00.
- Race starts at 20.00.
- First short rest (20 min) approximately 0.00 o’clock (Saturday) at Aapiskukko (Pälkäne).
- First loop ends at 4.00 o’clock at TESC (you can change dry clothes, fill your bottles and have some snacks).
- Second loop starts at 4.30.
- Short rest (20 min) approximately 7.00 o’clock at Hämeenkyrö
- Rest and lunch (60min) approximately 10.30 o’clock at Jämi. Opportunity to change dry clothes (service car), fill your bottles and have a warm meal.
- Approximately 11.30 ride continues.
- Short rest/coffee break (20 min) approximately 14.00 o’clock at Kyröskoski
- Back in TESC approximately 17.30-18.00. Warm meal and warm shower.

If you are interested to participate, you should have GPS which enables you to follow the track in case you get lost or have no visible contact to person in front of you. The track will be available on late April in our Facebook site. You should also have good technical skills to ride your bike in variable terrains (stones, roots, up- and downhills etc.). First of all you must have great physical and mental level of fitness! Maximum number of  participants is 15 with three leaders/guides.

Extreme-TdT in co-operation with OffroadFinnmark
The event is in co-operation with OffroadFinnmark, a long-distance MTB adventure race in Northern Norway, and serves as a good preparation for ultra races for later months. As a prize for those who survive the Extreme-TdT they want to give an excellent prize: two pieces of participations to 300km OffroadFinnmark –race in year 2015 (value: 4000NOK (about 450 euros) per participation). If there are more than two survivors who want to take part to OffroadFinnmark, we make a lottery after the event.

How to get in: Send an application letter as soon as possible (the first come, the first serve), where you tell me why you should be a part of the Extreme-TdT -team. (mikko.petajamaki (at) You should also tell what is your experience in ultraraces ie. TransAlps, OffroadFinnmark, TahkoMtb 180/240km, Haanja 100M etc. Race directorat processes the applications and everyone is informed by mid March if they are accepted to race or not. And remember, there is also option to take part in 5h or 8h guided tours without application letter!
